We commissioned Catcoon to conduct an accessibility and emissions audit of our website. The goal was to enhance accessibility and minimise environmental impact.
More than 1.3 billion people worldwide have a disability, making digital accessibility essential. The scan was based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), an internationally recognized standard developed by the W3C to ensure websites are accessible to people with disabilities. These guidelines cover aspects such as color contrast, alternative text for images, and keyboard navigation.
WCAG is also a key part of the European Accessibility Act (EAA), which requires businesses and public services in the EU to meet accessibility standards, ensuring equal digital access for all users.
The scan identified key areas for improvement, such as:
Additionally, overall accessibility quality was assessed based on performance metrics.
They evaluated the website’s environmental impact by assessing factors such as page weight, UX design, and hosting in relation to CO₂ emissions per page. The analysis revealed that some images and pages were unnecessarily heavy, affecting load times.
Based on these findings, Uncoded implemented targeted enhancements, including:
✅ Improved colour contrast for better readability
✅ Optimised ALT texts and link structure
✅ More efficient image use and faster load times
✅ And so much more…
Thanks to these optimisations, our website now delivers an even better experience in terms of accessibility and sustainability. With continuous improvements, we strengthen our role as a leader in inclusive and sustainable solutions.
