What’s the importance of ESG for my organisation?

It’s already a massive cliché (and therefore very true): ESG is no longer a nice-to-have but a strategic priority. Early movers stay ahead of competition and complex CSRD compliance. Here are the 6 main reasons why you can’t afford to wait anymore:

  • Clients demand it
  • Investors are watching
  • You save costs and boost circularity
  • Talent attraction & retention
  • Regulatory pressure is rising
  • Future-proofing your business

What does ESG mean?

ESG refers to Environmental, Social, and Governance. They are three pillars that measure how responsibly your organisation operates. ESG goes beyond business performance. It reflects how a company impacts the planet (environment), its people (social), and how it uses profit and governance to drive positive impact. In that sense, it’s also about the governance structures that establish your transparency and accountability. Ultimately, understanding the meaning of ESG is important for any organisation that wants to future-proof itself.

What efforts is De Cronos Groep making in terms of ESG?

At De Cronos Groep, we’re incredibly supportive of sustainability. Firstly, our founders put people front and centre. We’re also focusing on a greener fleet and buildings, and as an IT group, we’re aware that ESG needs IT to scale as it can turn ESG goals into action. Furthermore, we can't stress enough that sustainability is a work in progress. We must keep putting our best foot forward to improve our sustainability goals, reduce waste and emissions, and make sure our values resonate throughout the entire organisation.

If you’re interested in all the details, we’re happy to showcase our efforts in our Sustainability Report.

What is a sustainability assessment?

A sustainability (maturity) assessment – or ESG assessment – helps evaluate your environmental, social, and governance performance. It includes a footprint analysis, energy audits, and social responsibility reviews to identify improvement opportunities. The results guide ESG planning, support change management and prepare organisations for regulatory and compliance. Conducting an assessment provides clear priorities, measurable actions, and insight into how ESG can strengthen your overall business resilience and competitiveness.

What role does IT play in ESG?

IT is truly essential for ESG success. For one, it enables reliable ESG data collection and automates reporting. Digital tools also make analyses more efficient and survey sustainability KPIs. Furthermore, IT tracks emissions, optimises energy consumption, supports inclusion, improves transparency, ensures compliance, protects data, and detects risks early.

Quite the list, but the good news is that we’re here to connect all services to make that happen.

What is EAA?

EAA, or the European Accessibility Act, is here to make sure digital products and services are inclusive. For your organisation, this means developing an accessible website, or another digital app/tool, that meets EAA and WCAG requirements. Compliance strengthens ESG efforts by improving social responsibility and user experience. In addition, following accessibility standards enhances your employer branding, supports your HR strategy on diversity and inclusion, and demonstrates your commitment to providing equal digital access for all users, customers, and employees. It’s a win-win all over.

What is DPP?

DPP, or Digital Product Passport, is an EU initiative improving product lifecycle transparency. It supports ESG by tracking materials, repairability, and recyclability, helping businesses reduce their environmental footprint. DPP aligns with footprint analysis, circular economy practices, and requirements as laid out in ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) per the European Green Deal.

Beyond the complexities, it’s a simple fact that companies adopting DPP boost supply chain transparency, sustainability performance, and compliance while meeting consumer expectations for responsible production, reducing waste, and supporting a greener economy.

We offer a DPP service from start to finish, or from analysis to implementation, so find out everything you need to know here.

What is CSRD?

CSRD, which stands for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, requires some companies to disclose detailed ESG data. The non-financial CSRD reporting includes important areas such as footprint analysis, energy management systems, HR strategy, governance practices, and more. It improves transparency, comparability, and accountability in sustainability reporting. Cronos ESG helps organisations comply with CSRD, guaranteeing businesses are prepared, aligned with EU standards, and ready for stakeholder expectations.

What is WCAG?

WCAG, or Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, defines how you should create an accessible website. Compliance helps meet EAA requirements, improve inclusivity, and demonstrate ESG commitment. Following WCAG strengthens your HR strategy and employer branding by promoting diversity and accessibility. It also reduces legal risk and enhances user experience for people with disabilities, making your digital presence open to everyone while supporting broader ESG and social responsibility goals.
